1. Zap: (two players) What you need: Packet of lollypop sticks, one cup, paper and pencil. What to do:
Write a multiplication, addition, division or subtraction sum on the lollypop stick.
On three of the lollypop sticks, write ZAP!
One player pulls a lollypop stick out of the cup.
Then the two players complete the sum. The first person to finish the sum and get it right, keeps the lollypop stick.
If you pull out a ZAP! lollypop stick, you lose all the sticks you have won to the other player.
Keep playing until there are no lollypop sticks in the cup
2. Deck of Cards multiplication games: (two players) What you need: Deck of cards, paper and pencil. What to do:
Each player pulls one card from the deck.
The two players multiply the numbers on each of the card together.
The player that completes the sum first and gets it correct, wins a point.
3. Place Value card game: What you need: deck of cards, paper and pencil. What to do:
Pick 2 or 3 cards.
What is the biggest number you can make?
What is the smallest number you can make?
4. Time:
Teach your child to tell the time.
Make a clock using a paper plate or go outside and use a Hula Hoop and 2 sticks. (one for the minute and one for the hour hand). You could use pieces of paper with the numbers 1-12 on them too.
Learn the days, months and seasons
Learn how to read the calendar
Look at magazines/newspapers – how long is your favourite programme on for? What time is the movie starting? What time will it be finished?
5. Money:
Money Take a range toys or clothes and give each item a different price.
Order the items from most to least expensive.
If I wanted to buy 5 of an item. What would the total cost be?
Give a budget to redecorate a bedroom – look at the Ikea website and see what different items you could buy. Using a packet of 3/4/5 items e.g. cereal bars/ socks/ t-shirts etc.
If a pack of 5 costs €7.50. How much would 1 cost?
