This year we are aiming for the Global Citizenship Energy flag. Schools work on each flag over 2 years and we are in year 1 of the programme. We have had our first Green Schools meeting of the year with our new committee members. Ms.Connolly and Ms.Beardmore are working with us this year. Our first job is to make posters for each classroom reminding everyone what goes in the recycling and compost bins. Ms.Connolly and Ms.Beardmore will be going on a course with SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) to learn about how we can save energy in school. Next month we will carry out our environmental review and conduct a global awareness survey with students in school. We are looking forward to a great year.

Our school is very conscious of conserving water. A large rainwater harvesting tank has recenttly been installed in the school, and this water is used for flushing toilets. This should reduce our water consumption. We have new energy efficient toilets and taps for the children. We have signs over the old taps in the staffroom and Art room encouraging people to turn them off after use. After all, every drop counts!
